Pisgah Legal Services seeks to pursue justice by providing legal assistance and advocacy to help low-income people in Western North Carolina meet their basic needs and improve their lives. We provide free civil legal aid to people who live in poverty and improve systems and policies that impact the lives of thousands of low-income people. PLS does not handle criminal cases. We do not usually handle cases where a private attorney could receive a fee as part of money awarded by a court or agency. We do not usually handle personal injury cases, divorces, bankruptcies, property transactions, or traffic accident cases.

To qualify for help from PLS, you must meet our low-income guidelines. We determine if you qualify by looking at income, family size, assets, and living expenses. You must also have a problem that affects your basic needs.

I just have a quick, but important question. I broke my lease and my landlord will not communicate with me and will not return my last month's rent that I never used. I moved out mid month August so I already paid that month. (I understand he keeps my security deposit) Can I take him to small claims court? Or ??

Important Information

Legal Aid Funding
Legal aid professionals and organizations oftentimes receive government funding for taking on cases with those who cannot afford attorneys. For the most part, funding is limited so legal aid entities can only take on a limited amount of cases. Qualifications are often rigid.
