My husband passed away December 30, 2019. He was treated by the VA and they sent him to Salt Lake City in hopes that they could help him with his cancer. They made all travel arrangements other than our paying our own way to fly there, hotel room, meals, etc. We paid those ourselves. Even though....the VA says we "made too much money", we both were living on Social Security only. When they sent him home, they transported him via ambulance to the airport and flew him home. I am now getting billed from the ambulance companies. When I check with the VA, they say they are not responsible for those payments, even though we had absolutely no say in how his transportation was handled. It was all arranged through their SLC VA office. Now I am being threatened with reporting these bills to a collection agency. Since my husband has passed and left no money in an "estate", am I, as his wife, legally obligated to pay for his medical expenses? Everything I'm ready says no, I am not responsible, but I want to make sure I do everything the right way. Thank you for any information on this.

Important Information

Legal Aid Funding
Legal aid professionals and organizations oftentimes receive government funding for taking on cases with those who cannot afford attorneys. For the most part, funding is limited so legal aid entities can only take on a limited amount of cases. Qualifications are often rigid.
