Legal Assistance of Olmsted County is 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides free civil legal services to low-income people in Olmsted County. Legal Assistance aims to have a positive effect on our entire community by championing stability for families, accountability that leads to better housing, relief for victims of domestic violence, alleviation of overburdened courts.
For most of our programs we serve individuals with annual incomes at or below 125% of the federal poverty guidelines. In an emergency, we will serve individuals with annual incomes at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines. We define an emergency as an imminent loss of housing, an emergency child custody matter, a dissolution case where child custody is contested and the client has been served a summons and petition, and orders for protection or restraining orders. All persons wishing to receive services from LAOC must complete an application which asks detailed information about the applicants household and income. Applicants must attach ve rification of their income to their applications.
