DRMs advocacy improves the lives of people with disabilities and creates a more inclusive and just society for all, by advancing human rights. We help people with disabilities pursue opportunities to participate fully in all aspects of community life, and champion their rights to self-determination, dignity, equality, opportunity, and freedom from discrimination and harm. DRM provides free legal services to Marylanders with disabilities on matters that are related to their disabilities and fall within our advocacy service areas. The decision to accept an individual case for representation will be informed by DRMs Advocacy Services Plan, resource limitations, and our commitment to affecting broad-based, significant and lasting change for Marylanders with disabilities.

Mission Statement: the Mission of Mercy Dental Clinic, which offered services over two days, had reached capacity by 9:30 am. I had the opportunity to volunteer at My Sister’s Place, which provides meals and access to various services to women, the day before and many of the women were busy chatting about what types of haircuts they wanted to get or how receiving a new ID would help them in their daily lives. Most of the services, like getting a haircut or visiting the dentist, are often things we take for granted, however, for many of the participants these services will help alleviate some of their hardships and hopefully help them access stable housing.

Legal Aid Funding
Legal aid professionals and organizations oftentimes receive government funding for taking on cases with those who cannot afford attorneys. For the most part, funding is limited so legal aid entities can only take on a limited amount of cases. Qualifications are often rigid.
