The Committee for Public Council Services provides legal representation in Massachusetts for those unable to afford an attorney in all matters in which the law requires the appointment of counsel. This includes representation in criminal, delinquency, youthful offender, child welfare, mental health, sexually dangerous person and sex offender registry cases, as well as related appeals and post-conviction matters.

This office is also sometimes called the mental health litigation unit. If a person is brought to an emergency room of a hospital or the Psychiatric ward of the hospital or directly to a mental facility/Institution and they feel that they have been wrongly or falsely/intentionally/maliciously taken there
